Hitting a limit
When you try to do something that exceeds your tier's limit (e.g. inviting a second team member on Starter), Quackback returns a clear error message with the limit, your current usage, and a CTA to upgrade. Existing data is unaffected — you can keep editing, voting on, and commenting on what you have.
Upgrading
Upgrades take effect immediately. New limits are pushed to your workspace within a few seconds. We prorate the upgrade against your current billing cycle.
Downgrading
When you downgrade (e.g. Pro → Starter), existing data stays accessible. Boards, posts, seats, integrations all keep working. You just won't be able to create new ones above the new tier's limits until you upgrade again.
We never delete your data on downgrade. The over-limit state itself is the upgrade pressure if your team wants to add more.
Examples
- You have 8 boards on Pro and downgrade to Starter (1-board limit). All 8 boards stay live. You can edit and use them. You cannot create new boards until you upgrade or delete enough boards to be under the cap.
- You have 6 team seats on Pro and downgrade to Starter (1-seat limit). All 6 admins/members keep access. You cannot invite new admins/members until you free up seats.
- You're using Advanced AI on Pro and downgrade to Starter (Basic AI only). Auto-summaries, duplicate suggestions, sentiment, and conversation extraction stop running on new posts. Existing AI-generated artifacts remain visible. Semantic search and similar-post suggestions keep working — those are Basic AI and available on every tier.
Trials
Pro and Scale both include a 14-day free trial. No credit card required to start. At the end of the trial, your workspace downgrades to Starter unless you've added a payment method.
